Deep dark brown where bright light passes through the edge. Quickly diminishing head leaving only rim bubbles. Minor spots for lacing.
Strong coffee aroma. Definitive burnt patent malt nose. No ash though.
Thinner body like most traditional Irish stouts. Not nitro, so the carbonation seems higher than expected. The taste is a bit watery but the correct flavors are present--burnt male bitterness bringing a coffee-like presence. No chocolate. Short aftertaste. Overall, this falls short of expectations.
