16 oz can left to acclimate to room temperature for 23 minutes and poured into a nonic pint glass.

Pours black, not hazy, and has lovely orange to red highlights. Produces a one finger, long lasting beige head of foam of tiny bubbles, closely resembling nitro, leaving no lacing. This is a perfect looking beer.

Initial aroma is 60 ish % chocolate and a hint of coffee, I definitely pick up bittersweet and mostly dry olive green grass.

Initial taste before swallowing is surprisingly sweet 60-70% dark chocolate with a hint of dark roast coffee.

After swallowing I first get the above notes, lightly to moderately bitter in the bottom of the back of the mouth and very sweet on top of the middle of the tongue. This lasts and is joined by bright olive green light to moderate hoppy bitterness, then Dutch processed cocoa powder on the tip of the tongue. Same cocoa in the back of the bottom of the mouth remains where the coffee fades in the finish with a hint of the hops. There's a hint of super intense coffee bitterness that's separate from the other coffee throughout the process, while super intense in flavor, it isn't super intense in quantity, and doesn't detract from the experience.

I struggle to describe feel but I would call this smooth, as well as almost silky? I'd also say it's not thin but I was expecting a little more body? Not at all a negative, just an observation.

I'm a little biased in my overall rating because I love the black lager categories so much, but I think this is spectacular! It's overall just a superb beer that delivers excellent taste and a wonderfully smooth and coherent experience. I was very pleasantly surprised as I expected it to be good but not great.

Definitely will buy again and recommend!
