in the morning, in the rain, on a hangover, this was precisely what i needed, a light coffee porter that drinks a lot like a middle of the spectrum brown ale with good coffee added in, its nice beer, well made, slightly english even, which means it has yeast element, delicious. looks light for a porter but very active and fizzy, some good head on it, off white, pale for the style. it smells and tastes like dry bakers chocolate from the malt base, some smoke too, milky sweet for a second, but lots of bitter java too, tons of balance for it bring this light. i pick up a ton of roast too, but its more from the malt than any chocolate element, the coffee is rich and decadent but not sweet, its awesome, fresh, low acid, and really prominent with how light the rest of the beer is. this is carbonated like a soda, has just enough residual sugar, and really is well done, with big contributions from all the elements. seemingly light and simple, but it warms up well, is borderline refreshing, shocking for a coffee porter right? and overall one of the best i have had from these guys so far, something they should be proud of. this really brought me back, amen!
