Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium pumpkin orange with a quarter finger white head that dissipates to patrches with light lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt, light stone fruit and tangerine. Flavor follows with dry caramel malt, apricot, apple, raisins and mild orange. Light woody astringency in the finish with hints of vanilla and residual caramel. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Not sure I've had a traditional Adambier, which are reported to be tart, but this does seem to fit the profile of domestic ones like HotD Adam, especially the wood aged ones. A dry and woody caramel is the dominate flavor, somewhat like an English barleywine, but with lighter fruit notes. The fruit component is complex with stone fruit, dried dark fruit and even some mild citrus. Finishes somewhat dry, with woody caramel character. Although closest to an old ale, does not have the deep biscuit malt of that style. An interesting, flavorful and rare style to try. Thanks Varietal.
