Poured from 16oz can into a dimpled mug. Can says best by 10/2023; this is labeled a West Coast IPA.
Appearance: light golden hue with a dash of haze and a finger of frothy ivory foam.
Smell: quite sweet with a piney, earthy hop character. It's not bad, but the sweetness is a bit much for me, and the hop character, while good, lacks depth.
Taste: sweet malt with a piney, citrusy hop flavor. There's more depth to the hops here, and I like the juicy result of the kind of citrusy hop meets sweet malt, but it's just a bit too treacly for me.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a good carbonation and a rather excellent creaminess for the style. So, the syrupy sugar isn't great for flavor, but man is the texture great for an IPA!
Overall: great mouthfeel notwithstanding, I don't think this beer is going to enter my pantheon of favorites. It's a totally decent beer, but I think maybe I'm just not the audience for it.
