Angel Bones is made from a blend of wild ale aged for 24 months in oak barrels that previously held red wine and a saison aged in a gin barrel for 18 months. This blend was then refermented on 600 lbs of whole apricots from UPLAND FARMS in Sunnyside, Washington. The finished beer has been bottle conditioned for months until it was ready to enjoy.

This one sounds fun, you don’t really see too many third use barrels for Wild Ales, especially ones that have held other beers. Between this and the apricots, I’m not sure how much the barrel will actually be present, but that’s okay. Let’s pop it open and see what it has to offer
Pours a hazy orange gold with 2 fingers of frothy off white head that slowly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing
Well there certainly is some funk in the nose, but it’s a whole lot of apricot above all else. I’m picking up on aromas of jammy apricot, peach rings, lemon juice, wet hay, apple cider vinegar, sharp oak, floral hops, and a touch of gin
The tartness is tempered a lot more in taste, but it makes for a unique beer. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting lemon zest, dried apricot, orange juice, tannic white wine, smooth oak, white pepper, apple skin, and straw. The swallow brings notes of jammy apricot, white pepper, gin, dry oak, tannic white wine, apple cider vinegar, wet hay, and lemon zest
A medium full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a smooth beer. Finishes slick and sticky
Despite the odd mouthfeel, this is a very good beer. Great display of fruit and barrel surprisingly

Bottle into Imperial Pint
Look: Slightly hazy dark yellow, pouring a 1 finger head which dissipated into a thin cap
Smell: Fresh lemon and apricot, cereal grains, alcohol, and a touch of oak
Taste: Tart lemon and apricot, followed by red win and alcohol. Cereal grains and the oak tannins come in on the finish
Feel: Light-med body, moderate carbonation, dry finish
Overall: Good brew, but that alcohol in the taste is rough
