i believe this is a fresh hop version of a beer they normally make called damnit bobby, with fresh citra in this instance, cool how much stuff these guys are doing with fresh hops, and how good it all is! this has a little cloudiness to it but its not a hazy, light colored and bright looking in the glass still, lots of carbonation and a wispy inch of white head to it. the nose is lovely and its so obviously citra hops in here, up front and vibrant to my senses, lemongrass, green lawn almost chlorophyl character, a hint of tangerine candy, and some sticky resinous element as well, rather robust for citra, i suspect other hops in the base beer as well. the grain isnt really a big part of this either in aroma or flavor, it seems ever so slightly richer and fuller than just straight up base two row barley, but its only a mild deviation from that, its fermented clean and pretty dry, and its well out of the way of all these hops. i like the early onset bitterness in the flavor, and how the freshness pops without it being vegetal even though its still grassy in that way, an appealing not an oversaturated greenness. hints of key lime and coconut in this, orange zest as it warms, some weedy notes that go beyond typical citra properties i reckon for sure, but really solid and distinctive. medium body, with a wet hop type feel, all the volatiles swirling. ive never tried the original beer this builds on, but this version is pretty fantastic, i was so impressed with our visit to varietal!
