A: Pours a dark brick red color. A two finger beige head forms with good retention and light lace left behind.
S: Big malty aromas up front which I like. Toasted malts, cereal grains. Even woody like, that finishes with a bit to much woody/dry character.
T: Like the nose, very malty. Toasted malts, crackers, grains and a dry woody flavor. I typically like a big malty character, but this to woody and dry even for me.
M/O: A medium body with good carbonation. Very dry...too dry if there is such a thing. Saying all that, not hard to drink, and something that is relatively easy to come back to if in the mood.
This is pretty similar to Holler's Amber. A lot of malt that becomes really dry. Which isn't bad, but I feel there needs to be something that counters that dryness. Normally, you can't make a dry enough beer for me, but there are a few exceptions. If there was a bit more hops or sweetness to counter, that would make this great. As is. enjoyable but not exceptional.
