My first Brut IPA. Wasnt sure what to expect from the style, but IMO - Great Heights Brewing is one of Houston-craft's best kept secrets. They would be my first choice for a local-HOU brewery to attempt a new style.
This was very refreshing. Great smooth taste and smell is crisp, very clean. I agree with another Advocate's post - ABV was a little higher then I anticipated for the style.
Good beer. Worth having.
Or, maybe the true aficionados should keep this a secret and let the NEIPA crowd still chase NEIPAs. The more you know!

This is the first "Brut" IPA I have had. Made with Mosaic and Citra hops.
A: Pours a perfectly clear straw/yellow color. A two finger white head forms, and recedes quickly. Light lace i left behind.
S: Berry and tropical like fruit aromas up front. Very simple, but at the same time very aromatic. There could be a little more nuance but still enjoyable.
T: That typical berry flavor is up front. Very much Mosaic hop forward. Some floral and tropical fruits that take a back seat. I do get a bit of peppery spice mingled in between. Though that is not a typical flavor characteristic I get from either Mosaic or Citra. A very neutral malt flavor, and overall something I really enjoy.
M/O: This is where the beer shines. A light to medium body. Very effervescent. Crisp, supper clean, and dry. I had two pints at the brewery, so I can say that I do enjoy drinking this. I would like the alcohol to be a bit less, but something I can certainly come back to.
Maybe this is just Great Heights interpretation, but I was thinking the "Brut" IPA was lower in alcohol. It is certainly not out of range for a regular IPA, Anyway, still something I do enjoy. The berry like hop character is most dominate, and the crisp, dry effervesces makes this something I want to come back to. I will be looking forward to this more, and looking for more examples of the ultra new style when I come across it.
