A: Pours a dark mahogany/brown/red color. A one finger beige head forms and sticks around for a minute. Light lace is left behind.
S: Big malt aromas up front and center. Caramel, burnt sugars, dark fruits like plums and raisins. They did a good job with the malt character here.
T: Again, just a huge malt flavor. Toasted, bread like. Caramel and burnt sugars. Dark fruits of plums and raisins. Herbal, earthy hops in the background. Then the sweetness takes overs. Which makes this a bit cloying in the finish, but no more so than expected.
M/O: A full body with good carbonation. Smooth at first, which becomes sticky and viscous as the sweetness builds. The almost overly cloying sweetness makes this a particularly slow sipper. This does hit the big malty spot though.
Hopping this sticks around till it actually does get cold in Houston. The sweetness does weight me down a bit, but still well done for the style and overall enjoyable.
