A: Pours a near opaque black color. A dense tan head rises to a finger with good retention. Especially considering the alcohol content and the barrels. Some lace is left behind.
S: Oh man, big barrel and roasted malts all intermingle here. Coffee, chocolate, liquorice. Oak/barrels and vanilla. The nose is big and very welcoming.
T: Follows the nose. With all the oak/barrel/vanilla flavors mingling with the roasted malt, coffee and chocolate and liquorice. Some smoky char. Solvent alcohol creeps in and shows it strength as well.
M/O: A big full body and higher carbonation that I was thinking it would have. Though that breaths and smooths out. Warming alcohol, and big aggressive flavors makes for a slow sipper. Though really enjoyable.
This is a pretty good Barrel Aged Imperial Stout. Tons of character, and big alcohol. Sometimes that can be a detriment as it can be too much. They pulled it off here, and its something I want to come back to while its still available at the brewery.
