Drank 3/29/2024 - 2023 vintage
Pour is jet black with a fizzy, dark cinnamon colored head that quickly fades to a nice little ring around the glass.
Nose is vanilla, bourbon, brownie,
Taste is chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malt, coffee, fudgey chocolate, marshmallow. The vanilla has faded a tad, or blended in better(?) since I had this fresh on tap at the brewery last year (november?). Drinking more balanced now. Great beer.
smooth, creamy, thick body. not overly thick or sweet.
Overall, a wonderful beer.

A: Pours an opaque black color. A small tan head forms and dissipates in a moment with no lace left behind.
S: Vanilla up front for sure, and that takes over. Some generic barrel characteristics, like wood and char. Though very light.
T: Vanilla, again is the main show. With chocolate and sweetness, almost like battered cake mix. Barrel like characteristics are light and towards the end.
M/O: A full and thick body. Low carbonation, but still smooth. At first the alcohol presence is light, but that builds and becomes more harsh as this warms. A sipper for sure.
This has more in common with a cake mix, the barrel character is a bit muted, and the vanilla is the show. I think Great Heights made exactly what they wanted, it just doesn't jell with me as much as much as I would like. If others like a more dessert like stout, this will be for them.
