Our twist on the historical German-style rye beer was brewed with a more neutral yeast than the traditional weizen yeasts, to allow the dark, roasted malts to shine.

A Rye Lager sounded like just the ticket to me. Color is a pale amber with modest film of foam in the snifter. Malty aroma is rather faint but a nice wheaty, spicy nose. The first taste is inviting with a malty mellowness and just enough sweetness to welcome the bitter, brainy taste I associate with rye beers. Not really bitter, but there's a dark edge that provides some balance. Pleasant creamy mouthfeel, like a German beer. While less agressively flavored, this is just right for a Lager and the smack of rye makes it a tastier quaff. From the four-pack of 16 oz cans purchased at Elizabeth Station. Not dated.
