Served on-tap in a 20 oz willi at Three Notch'd Brewing Company taproom (Charlottesville, VA).
A: Pleasing soft chestnut brown with 1-finger light beige, small-bubbled head with decent retention and a short ridge of lacing at the top of the glass.
S: Delicious malty aroma, fig, raisin, and burnt caramel, with a light herbal hops nose
T: A really easy-to-drink beer with the alcohol well-hidden. Light caramel and raisiny-date flavors pop through first with a bit more pale and crystal malt backbone showing through. Hopping is background with a light herbal, spicy tone. Clean without yeast esters.
M: Very lush and smooth with a medium-body and medium carbonation.
O: This is really good one-off for TN. I hope they bring this back every spring -- a really nicely done maibock with well-hidden alcohol in a clean, malty lager.
