Appearance: pours a deep garnet color. Two finger off white head with strong retention and a moderate lacing left behind. Pretty much darn and opaque but has quite a bit of bright highlights when held to the light.
Smell: tangerine mixed with pine sap hops. Quite an earthy hoppiness. Sweetness comes through as some caramel and crystal malts to a light dark fruity smell.
Taste: opens up with a hop resin mixed with pine sap. Some earthiness. The tangerine from the smell is barely there, getting mixed in with raisins and some more dark fruits. Caramel to chocolate malts come through. Strong crystal character. Slight roasted character. Lots of flavored going on but they don't quite jive.
Mouthfeel: fairly heavy for the wheat aspect. A bit of alcohol heat. Moderate residual bitterness.
Overall: lots of good flavors going on but they just don't go well together. The hops are in one place and the malts are in another.

On tap:
Pours a pale brown, looks cloudy (maybe?). Head is nice and white, fluffy/foamy. Lacing is quite good. Nose is dark bread-dark wheat - or almost like a pumpernickel (hops might mimic/replace the rye notes).
Taste is sorta like the nose, but a little more malty. Maybe a light brown sugar, and maybe a hint of nuttiness (exact nuts I can't pick out, not peanut). Going into the end taste, a light sweet citrusy hops taste that joins the party. Carbonation plays into the feel to liven up the tongue. Ending is dry, lightly earthy/grassy.
I actually quite enjoyed this beer. Not sure the wheat part fits what anyone would normally think of a wheat beer. It's a bit more black IPA than colored hefe, to be sure. Then again, reading the style description, that might be expected.

Very unique, the combination of the three styles blends well together. Tasty, nice collab with DBB
