From the pint can, it pours a clear very dark brown/black color with a nice light tan head that slowly reduces and leaves lacing. The nose gets some brown sugar scents, difficult to describe. The mouth gets a roasted malt flavor with some burnt tidbits and a light bitterness at the end.

Nice and dark, almost black. Can only see through a bit of brown at the thinnest areas. Tan head that dissipates into thin trim lacing around the edges.
Sweet, roasty aroma.
Good, sweet, coffee flavors balanced by a soft hop bittterness and peppery finish. Could pack a little more punch. Good balance but I would like the flavors to be more fleshed out.
Medium mouthfeel, nicely carbonated on the tongue.
Overall a good beer to drink.

I was a little concerned when this poured with a not too dark manner, like more like a brown ale. Did produce a thick foamy, sticky lacing head though, so that’s good. Nose is odd, maybe cola and ginger? Taste makes only slightly more sense as it starts out with molasses and takes an earthy bitter and ginger again? twist. Aftertaste is a little molasses sweet bitter as well. All told, this leans towards the “mess” side of Cascadians.

The bottom of the can says: "GO STEELERS 11/28/17"

Appearance: The body of the beer is a dark brown color with hints of mahogany and deep ruby red. The head is medium-short sized with a light khaki color. It has decent retention. The color is very pretty.

Aroma: There is a soft aroma of burnt charcoal and a hint of what is slightly metallic and acrid. It's pretty lackluster in the aroma department as there is no hop presence.

Taste: There is a nice roasty flavor with a bit of carbon and just a very, very light herbal flavor towards the end.

Mouthfeel: Light bitterness which comes mostly from the roasted grains. There is just a touch of what feels like hop bitterness. The beer is medium bodied but it fills the corners of the palate nicely.

Overall: There wasn't much hop presence in this beer which makes me wonder if the choice of using goldings as the hop variety was simply a novelty so the beer could be called "BLACK & GOLDINGS." It falls short in the hop department compared to most American Black Ales. However, the roasted grain flavor is very nice and it makes the beer at least enjoyable to drink. I really wouldn't recommend it over the other, better made, American Black Ales on the market and I doubt I would buy it again.

Opaque with a brown head scattered lacing. Grassy smells, cane sugar, smoke. This looks and smells the part.

Boy this is good. Roasted malts, then some burnt marshmellow, some sugar sweetness and maybe a tease of chocolate.. Smooth yet rich. Noticeable alcohol. Lingering bitter and sweetness. Perfect mouthfeel - carbonation is in check.

This is a full boozy, hoppy, dark bit of goodness. Couple good brewers did a good job with this. Seek it out if you can. Hopefully, they'll make more.
