Piedmont Label“Piedmont Craft Apple” is our special edition fall brew in collaboration with the PCA – the Piedmont Council of the Arts. PCA brings together the best of the local arts community by connecting town to townsfolk to artists. They believe in the power of local artisans helping to build a better community. Three Notch’d has brought together the best local ingredients to perfect this copper colored ale that captures the greatness of fall treats in a bottle. The aroma is full of vanilla graham cracker, apple, and cinnamon. Many of the same aromas show up in the flavor profile along with some spicy ginger.

Bottle #225 from 2015 (not sure if they will repeat this).
Also unsure how to categorize the beer, amber, fruit, and spice were all options, but the brewer's site focused on the spice notes, so...
As I was pouring this, it drained nicely clear amber to auburn from the bottle. Sitting in the glass, there is a haze, but I did toss the bottom of the bottle in the glass without paying attention. Head thickly gathers at the edges, some lacing, but not much head on the surface.
Nose is somewhat ambiguous, a little earthy spice like nutmeg or maybe old cinnamon. Somewhat bready, and perhaps a little woody/leafy; strangely it actually reminds me of a walk in the fields in fall. The nose grew on me as a whole without being able to discern the exact individual notes.
Taste is very similar to the nose. There is a sweet-tart note that wasn't a part of the nose that I do perceive as apple-maybe because of the name. Unsweetened apple pie, earthy spices. It tries to lean a little to sweet but never really gets there. Definitely not bitter, more neutral overall. The spices aren't biting and are somewhat subdued.
Carbonation is decently lively, medium or slightly lighter in heft, neutral flavor yields an impression of slight wateriness on some sips.
Surprisingly enjoyable, if uncategorizeable beer. Thinking Timothy play better as a lightly flavored amber after making it through a glass, but even that I could be talked out of. A crisp fall evening beer, for sure.
