Appearance: The body of the beer is a dark brown color. It has a short off-white head that is slightly tan in color and fades somewhat quickly. It leaves a nice sheet of lacing.
Aroma: It has a souring fruit aroma that smells of ripe plums, mulberries, and sour smelling pear.
Taste: It has a nice mellow sour fruit flavor which has notes of raspberry and plum with a bit of pear and starfruit in the mix. There is a bit of mint towards the end which is very nice.
Mouthfeel: It is smooth and easy to drink with a light acidity.
Overall: It is a high quality American Wild Ale that seems to lean closely to the Flanders styles of beers but not quite mimicking them. The beer has a tame sourness that keeps it interesting and prevents it from being overwhelming. The light mint quality is also a welcome addition to the beer because it both adds another layer of flavor on the beer and works to somewhat cleanse the palate as the beer finishes, leaving the subsequent sips to taste new and fresh. I liked the beer and while I couldn't drink it often I would definitely drink it again. It is a quality competitor to other American Wild Ales. The back of the label states that this is "A DARK ALE COOLSHIP FERMENTED AND BARREL-AGED WITH DARK CHERRIES." It didn't have any dark cherry character but as a whole the beer seemed to simply work.
