This was part of a pack given to me by a cousin late last year. Haven't had a Boston Beer Company offerings in ages and their footprint was all over this - from the label, to the appearance, to the taste that reminded me of their flagship offering. This wasn't as juicy as promised but it was just as enjoyable as I thought and would have made a nice go-to choice, just like Sam Adams Boston Lager!
Almond in hue and quite bright, this lively brew was topped off with enough offsetting foam as it took quite a while to settle down. A decent amount of wavy suds were left behind with only a semblance of a ring remaining near the bottom of my pint glass. Lots of Caramel Malt, nuts, and peat moss were in the nose as the taste was somewhat slick, a bit nutty, and full of subtle fruit. Gooseberry, earthy citrus, almond, chestnut, and turbid stone fruit were not that all pronounce individually, but were felt in this once it warmed up as they were underneath the more prominent notes in this offering. Heavy in taste and on the palate, this was a slow sipper because of that even though it wasn't that potent.
The ABV% listed on the can was 7.0, and not the 8.0 posted here, although it felt quite strong from the get-go. No date was to be found anywhere as there was enough fine sediment floating in this and a few dark bits that settled at the bottom. This needed more fruit and slickness to be juicy in my book but as it was, I though this was more an American IPA than an Imperial as it deserved another go-around. Drink this if you like your beer to have a bit of an old-school feel!
