A malty selection that pairs a variety of UK malts with German hops and relies on peat-smoked malt from the land of the Scots to lend a distinct smoky finish.

A: Pours a dark brown color. A two finger beige head forms with good retention and plenty of lace is left behind.
S: Toasted malts up front, with chocolate and just a bit of smoke. I get some noticeable herbal and grassy hops in the finish as well.
T: Follows the nose, with that toasted malt character up front. Chocolate, some caramel, and light smoke. Then , again, noticeable herbal and grassy hops that leaves a little bitterness in the finish. I would not consider the hops particularly strong for any other style, but for a a Scottish Ale, would like it toned down just a touch. Still, really good.
M/O: A medium to full body. Good crisp carbonation, but becomes silky smooth as this warms and breaths. Really easy to drink. I can come back to this with ease, and for the most part well made.
Like I said, I do get some herbal and grassy hops in the finish. Small as that might be, would like it a little less for the style. Even so, this is something I think is well made, and I am looking forward to coming back for more. In the same vain as Holler's Basic Brunette and Odell's 90 Shilling for a well done American version of a Scottish Ale.
