this is the first bottle of echigo beer i've had, after downing many a can. i went to OK mart - the only place i can find yona yona and echigo - and they had a few short bottles with pull caps that were past their best-before date. so i asked the dude, and he said they had a new shipment that they hadn't put out yet. i chose a fresh, new long neck bottle.
typical looking, straw colored lager, very active carbonation, excellent head. i've seen enough japanese pilseners, most are boring, but echigo's organic premium beer has a good appearance. the smell is a bit of a let down. it's faint, fairly weak. but, what i do get from the nose is a better, more accurate pils smell than many macro attempts.
this is a very nice, smooth beer. easy drinking, satisfying. just bitter enough to pass for a pils. i must say, there's nothing notably bad about this beer, it's incredibly adequate. similar to the other, non-stout offerings from echigo, nothing spectacular, but solid and worth a try.
