Malt runs deep in this beer, just like the tradition of the style. Caramel undertones, with complex peat, earth, or smoky secondary aromas. Throw on a kilt, throw a caber, and enjoy a truly wonderful beer.

16 ounce crowler into tulip glass, filled on 6/19/2020. Pours fairly hazy deep ruby red/brown color with a small fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with solid retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, wit ha fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toast, biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of raisin, plum, fig, date, red apple, chocolate, peat smoke, tobacco, leather, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready/light roasted malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toast, biscuit, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of raisin, plum, fig, date, red apple, chocolate, peat smoke, tobacco, leather, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Mild herbal, woody, grassy, peppery, roasted bitterness; and yeast tang on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread dough/crust, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, dark fruit, chocolate, peat smoke, tobacco, leather, wood, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/bready, lightly sticky, and slightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9%. Overall this is an excellent Scotch ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready/light roasted malts, and light earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the big ABV, with the mellowly bitter/drying finish; great soft feel. Great rich malt complexity; with balancing earthy hops and restrained fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and impressive spot on style example as expected of the brewery. No complaints.
