Aged in a Two James Catchers Rye Barrel, malt and classic American hops showcase this deep amber American rendition. A subtle sweetness followed by a faint hint of alcohol lead the nose. The very full body shifts into faint, sweet hints of caramel, bread, and a hint of alcohol. Served in our 10oz snifter, indulging in one too many may result in you being barley able to stand.

12 ounce can into snifter, canned in 9/2019. Pours hazy very dark reddish brown color with a minimal spotty lace cap that lingers. Minimal spotty lacing or streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, rye whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of roasted nuts, chocolate, cocoa, raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, orange, grapefruit, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Taste of huge caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, rye whiskey, coconut, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of roasted nuts, chocolate, cocoa, raisin, plum, fig, date, apricot, orange, grapefruit, citrus peel/zest, peppercorn, pine, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and rye whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness, with no cloying sweetness from tannic oak dryness. Light carbonation and full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 10.5%, with minimal lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged barleywine. Amazingly soft/silky feel for the style. Perfectly balanced between super rich malts and rye whiskey barrel presence/integration; solid C hops, and fruity yeast presence. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected. Like a hybrid of American/English styles.
