Sampled on tap at Popeye in Tokyo (June 2003).
This Christmas Ale poured a hazy, brown-amber color (hint of red) with tall, creamy, light tan foam that clung to the sides of the glass a bit. The smell was dominated by a strong hop aroma (floral and bitter), but with some malt and a hint of caramel to counterbalance. The floral hops also dominated the taste, but sweet malt, oak, and alcohol could also be tasted. The mouthfeel was smooth with medium body and low carbonation, and a hoppy finish. This was a very enjoyable Christmas Ale, served in a snifter to maximize the sipping and sniffing enjoyment.
