I was stoked to try a local beer from PA. I have become a fan of Schwarzbier; they are the perfect summer treat for a rocker and sunset. The beer is over five months old but still fresh. Using a pokal glass because my kid wanted me to drink it out of it, I served the beer at around 44 degrees. The pour created a frothy, airy, light tan, two-fingered head with excellent retention. The slow dissipation left lots of lacing on the glass. The beer is dark brown with rusty hues, charting around SRM 34. The appearance of the beer is above average.
Nosing the glass, I smell chocolate, coffee, Maillard, a hint of smoke, dark roasted malts, a touch of brown sugar, and floral, herbal, and earthiness.
I taste coffee, chocolate, Maillard, a hint of smoke, dark roasted malts, brown sugar, floral, herbal, and earthiness,
The mouthfeel is bitter and finishes dry and crisp. The body is medium-light, and the carbonation is medium.
A fantastic Schwarzbier, bright flavors. The only question I have does Pennslyvania have crazy black Diamonds. The few I know of can give you a thrill of a lifetime. Or you could try Corbet's Couloir.

16oz can courtesy of JayO'Rear. Per the stamp on the bottom of the can (which also says "Chairlift Companion"), this was canned on New Year's Eve, 2020.
Poured into a 16oz can glass, this looked like a stout: inky black, conceding nothing to light, with a good sized khaki colored head. Quite a bit of lace, and the head was reasonably long lived.
Roasty, bitter, coffeeish nose, with a subordinate amount of chocolatey sweetness. Yeah, it's pretty malty.
Roasty and coffeeish up front in the taste, with a chocolatey sweet maltiness taming the bitterness enough to balance. Really well-flavored beer, like a schwarzbier with added ballsiness.
Body is somewhere between light and medium. Clean mouthfeel. Finishes cleaner than I would've thought possible.
This is great stuff. I love it's attitude: "Yes, I'm a 5% lager, but I'm gonna make you briefly wonder if I'm actually a stout!" I'm a fan. Thanks Jay!
