Lake Haze #19: The Hoist from Wallenpaupack Brewing. 16 oz can purchased from Wallenpaupack Brewing, Hawley, PA (21/10/21). $ 8.48 (including tax)/can ($0.53/oz). Stored at reefer in store and at 40 degrees after purchase. Reviewed 11/03/22. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Stamped on bottom of can “CANNED ON 09/02/21”. Served at 40.6 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 51.6 degrees.
Appearance – 3.5
First pour – Straw (SRM 3), slight haze.
Body – Straw (SRM 3), hazy and opaque. When rear-lite, some light passes through. I rolled this a few feet before pouring, but it never approached the murkiness of NEIPAs – just looks like a regular impy IPA.
Head – Average (Maximum 4.5 cm, aggressive center pour), white, high density and average retention, diminishing to an undulating 1.5 to 1.8 cm crown fed by moderate carbonation and a complete, meringue-like cap.
Lacing – None.
Aroma – 3.5 – Mild flowers and weak citrus, no malt, no yeast
Flavor – 3.5 – Follows nose – mild, almost apologetic hops and no malt or yeast. No ethanol (8.5 % ABV as marked on label) taste or aroma. Very weak gastric warming eventually occurs. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 3.5 – Medium, approaching creamy, soft but lively carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 Overall, an easy drinking mildly hoppy IPA. I can visualize drinking several of these then being surprised when I fall over

Thanks to Ozzylizard for this one from NBS BIF #14. 16oz can (dated 9/2/21) poured into 14oz teku. Poured a fully murky dark orange color with 1-1/2 inches of white head that had very good retention and no lacing.

The aroma was the anticipated blast of frooty hops, with no grain base.

Same on the tongue, the the froot being a bit brighter, and a slight touch of tangy bitterness.

The body was average, light-medium, smooth, but was a bit drier than typical on the finish.

Drinkability was fine, a bit more interesting than average.

Overall, a somewhat above average example of the style. Worth a shot if you're into the murksters.

Poured from fridge temp. Pours a nice murky orange with white head.

Nose: Wheat, citrus peel, floral notes, tropical fruit. Mango and pineapple mostly. Hoppy note is there, but not dominant on the nose.

Taste: First taste is honey. This is very fruit forward and very little in the way of hops. Almost no bitterness at all. Sweet. A bit of toffee, but a lot of pineapple, papaya, mango notes. Floral notes, along with a candy sweetness. A bit of spice. Gosh, this almost reminds me more of a Belgian Tripel given the malt sweetness.

Overall: This is lovely. I keep taking sips and thinking "damn this is good!". I'll pull off the beautiful label in a minute.
