Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into my snifter. Date stamp is canned on 5/31/2024. nice!
The beer pours a very clear chestnut color with a little bit of rose highlight. It rests slightly darker in my glass, but still slight red hues.
A fizzy beige head foams up briefly and then fades to only a wispy edge layer immediately after the pour. A small spinning island of bubbles in the center remains through the sampling, but never grows more than a small central shape.
Aroma is a mix of toffee and brown sugar with some rich bourbon notes as well. NO hop character and not boozy or fusol even with the 13.5% ABV. Dangerous.
First sip reveals a medium body and very fine tingly carbonation. Fairly smooth texture with only a bit of stickiness on my lips from each sip.
Flavor is kinda sweet with brown sugar and bourbon being dominant. There is a little peppery booze but no heat and the bourbon note lingers on the swallow. Not really any barrel character and the hops are absent also.
A pretty tasty and sneaky barleywine. I would gladly drink another can of this beer.
