Cask conditioned at the Prince of Wales, Wimbledon, London, Christmas 2004. Copper coloured. Nutty, pleasant, hints of Christmas spices. Very nice Christmas ale with a moderate ABV.

Cask. Deep copper with a deep frothy head for cask.
Smells of caramel malt with hops.
Toffee flavour with fruit and nut.
Very good condition. Moderate to full bodied.
A nice English Bitter for Advent.

Light colour; slightly cloudy copper. Soapy head. Mellow malts, sweet, almost sugary hops. The taste is of buttery, toffee malts; fruity hops - cherry, banana, hint of lemon. No spiciness at all. Mouthfeel is a bit thin and watery - this could be a bit thicker. Not a bad beer, but needs a bigger body to it. This was the first pour out of a fresh cask, so that might explain some of it.

Tasted by half-pint at the Penderel's Oak, a JDW pub nr. Holborn station, London.

A: faintly hazy, amber hue, with a loosely-formed spongey head dissipating slowly...
S: not-so-sweet caramel maltiness plus tea-leafy hoppyness on top of a fruitiness mixed of green pears (fermented...) and berries.
T: tea-leafy as well as lightly citrusy hops with a spicy edge dominate the foreground of palate, some nutty malts and sour-sweet fruitiness at presence, too; overwhelming bitterness and lightly earthy hoppyness in the aftertaste, leaving more marks on mouthfeel than on flavour.
M&D: refreshing mouthfeel on top of a full-bitterness serving as a solid platform. The website of Everards says it's a Christmas Ale, and overall it is indeed a pretty easy to drink winter bitter with a good depth, only if the aroma and flavour could be more pronounced to make it a fuller, X'mas brew~~
