This is a contract-brew for Stones, originally a Sheffield's local brand now under the control of Coors UK. Tasted by a half-pint at the Capitol, a JDW pub at Forest Hill, SE London. Served by a handpump w/o a sparkler.
A: dark straw in colour, dirty and sparse head on top; looking very static and lifeless.
S: sugary maltiness plus some syrup at presence, some chemical pear-ish notes and salty-sweet overripe fruits behind. Very timid and weak, and not quite fresh (this cask).
T: a mild flow of dried grass comes first, ensued by spicy hop-bitterness as well as a light touch of lemony sourness. A quite clean bitterness stays in the end, providing a comforting prize.
M: the palate is rather clean and sometimes even crisp (akin to a lager), also benefiting from light fizziness, although the body is feather light and slightly thin overall.
D: overall this is a weak golden bitter, with a quite dry and bitter aftertaste that manages to salvage the ale; lacking complexity in flavour but made up for by a clean bitterness. When on form, on cask, it might as well be a quaffable pint, though.
