Tasted by a half-pint at the Capitol, a JDW pub in Forest Hill, SE London, on 20 Feb. 2007.
A: dark copper in colour, coming with a fluffy and sparse foam on top of a static body.
S: the malty note like burned brown sugar is mixed well with a mildly stinky note of dried-leafy English hops, but apart from these theres little else to be enjoyed.
T: floral hops, plumy fruits, tea, and a maltiness as in Chinese grass-jelly all come together upfront; the slightly tannic and dryish aftertaste is underlined by a restrained but still relaxing bitterness, with a wee bit of ground herbs.
M&D: very light-bodied and quite thin-textured, this is a vague Bitter w/o a bold flavour or a clear theme overall, hence the rather low drinkability in my book.
