I tasted this can of Finkbrau Hefe in November 2008, best by date 2009. The cost in LIDL Ireland was 1.49 and I was very curious about this brew, firstly because of the comparatively low cast (about a euro cheaper than the usual hefes) and secondly because it came in a can.
I poured it into a weizen glass, and it did pretty much appear as it should. It had a decent white head atop a cloudy yellow-brown body. No evidence of any yeast in the bottom of the can. The smell was of subdued yeast with a citrus element. The taste and mouthfeel was thin and a bit dull; like a watered down hefe, not much flavour or complexity. This is not the worst beer I have had by any means, it might serve to quench the thirst on a Summers day, but would not be a brew of choice.

Finkbräu Hefe Weißbier is one of the own brand beers of the Lidl "Preishammer" supermarket from Germany. So, unsurprisingly it is very cheap (59 eurocents per can!). The availability in the Netherlands came as a pleasant surprise though. I haven't found the brewery so I took the Linden Brauerei listed with the other Lidl products, but it could very well be a no-name brewery in Poland or somesuch. MHB (BB): 04/08/2008 (that's August).
Slowly pouring it in a tall weizenbier glass created a nice, full head with tiny bubbles that in a few minutes receded into a thin layer of froth. There didn't seem to be any yeast (Hefe) on the bottom of the can, but the darkish yellow beer had a nice cloudiness, slightly less than my personal favorite Paulaner. The smell had that typical wheaty flavor that Wiezenbiere always have. This was also present in the taste, which was pleasantly sweet (banana?). The aftertaste was a bit of a disappointment, a bitter, almost chemical presence that would stay in my mouth for a long time. Carbonization was low, it could have been a bit stronger.
All in all a beer with a good price/quality ratio, an ideal choice for a low-budget party!
