Damon has turned the "new 40" and we are celebrating with a beer that captures the enthusiasm of a bright spring day - with its strong malt and honey backbone and balanced with hops we wonder where the pondering conversations will go.

At the brew hall, pours a beautiful color, kind of ruby amber, not much head. Nose is a little non-descript, but there’s some toast and a little honey malt. Taste: there’s quite a bit here, but I find it a little overloaded with spicy notes and pepper, and it could use a little more herbal or grassy hoppy edge. Not too sweet, at least, and lively mouthful, if a little full and substantial. Worth a shot, but it didn’t quite sing for me in the middle of June. If it was earlier spring, I might find it more perfect.

Clear amber color with a finger of fizzy head. Some lacing is left down the glass. This sample was poured from a crowler so that probably has something to do with the less than stellar presentation. Slightly toasted and bready malt aroma complimented by floral and peppery hops. The flavor is dry, nice malt flavors of bread with a slight toast. A little on the hoppy side but not overdone. Grassy, floral, and peppery hop flavors. The ABV is on the high side but the body and carbonation is well matched. I prefer my Maibocks not to get me blasted right off the bat but really enjoyable.
