Poured from the brewery tap into a pint glass.
Appearance: Reddish amber, more red than the average dunkel; 1/2" light tan head dissipated pretty quickly, but left adequate lacing.
Nose: Slight; bread, with a bit of dark fruit.
Mouthfeel: Medium, appropriate carbonation for the style.
Attack: Dark roast, some bread.
Finish: Balancing hop bitterness, continuing dark roast — this is a huge strength in this lager.
Overall: I like it. This doesn't quite look like a dunkel, but tastes — especially in the finish — like a very good one. While may not have the total balanced character of an Ayinger Altbairrisch, I'd certainly order it again.
NOTE: I initially added and rated this beer as a Munich Dunkel (the chalkboard menu at the brewery only said “Dunkel”) but later looking at the brewery website, it’s listed as a Dunkelweizen. It still strikes me as closer to a Munich Dunkel (and reviewers on Untappd seem to agree), but I have to trust the website.

We love reviews (150 characters or more)! Check out: How to Review a Beer. You don't need to get fancy. Drop some thoughts on the beer's attributes (look, smell, taste, feel) plus your overall impression. Something that backs up your rating and helps others. Thanks!
