On tap at the brewery (Mason location), poured quite cold into a pint glass.
Look: Very dark brown/black, with virtually no head but a tan foam ring that lingered and left some lacing.
Nose: Fairly faint dark roast, with a bit of oatmeal and some maple sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium, a bit thinner and not quite as creamy as I would expect from an oatmeal stout, sufficient carbonation.
Attack: Some dark roast, just a bit of oatmeal, neither as full nor as complex as I would have expected, including from the name of the beer. Not getting any maple flavor.
Finish: Bitterness from the dark roast — this is actually the most intense aspect of the flavor.
Overall: It's drinkable, but it doesn't stand up to other oatmeal stouts I've enjoyed. If they could work on the flavor profile a little more — give it more depth of flavor — it would have something more for the bitterness in the finish to balance. This is a good brewery; this doesn't strike me as its best offering.
