Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a nice looking dark brown close to black color in my glass. More of a dark to amber dark brown color in the pour. Not as much "nitro" head as I would have liked and it left some semi-messy super light filmy lace.
The aroma smelled like a Guinness but with some vanilla wafer sweetness coming a bit stronger than expected. Also, noticing a stronger sweet dark chocolate tone to this than a Guinness.
The flavor did provide plenty of sweet ashiness riding into some coffee ground bitterness and some dark chocolate to dark toast-like character. Semi-sticky aftertaste of cocoa powder, vanilla wafer and dark chocolate.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it but also not too much due to a certain dryness coming across. Finishes with some ashy/char dry tones.
Overall, I know I set this as an American stout but it does seem dry enough to be an Irish Dry stout too. Lots of vanilla seemed to make me think this is unique enough in the American stout realm. Fair amount of "Guinnes" like qualities. It's one I would come back to despite not as much "show" for a supposedly "nitro" beer.
