473ml can - yeah, this one is mine, because I freaking paid for it! No indication or explanation on the label as to what this offering's name actually means.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent layered frilly lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, a bit of hard water flintiness, laid-back domestic citrus rind, and some leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery cereal malt, orange and white grapefruit peel, a damp minerality, and more peppy leafy, herbal, and gently perfumed floral verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly low-key in its innocuous frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, as the hops appear to be of the benevolent sort, here. It finishes off-dry, the base malt and fruity bitterness in a tight lingering embrace.

Overall - this comes across as a pleasantly rendered version of the style, with a nice blend of fruit and forest floor detritus hoppy essences. Add in the barely detectable 7 points of that ol' wowee sauce quotient, and I must declare my flavour nodes duly hijacked!

Calgary's newest craft brewery to hit the scene.

Poured from a howler courtesy of the folks at The Brewer's Apprentice.

Appearance - Pours a dark amber/pale copper colour with three fingers of foamy white head.

Smell - Citrus hops, citrus and tropical fruit, floral aromas, bready malts, hint of caramel, stone fruit.

Taste - Bold flavours of tropical, citrus, and stone fruits, along with moderate citrus hop bitterness and hints of caramel malts. Hops and stone fruit flavours linger in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes slightly sticky.

Overall - An IPA that delivers on all the key elements. I would like to get more hops coming out in flavour and aroma, but that is just a minor imperfection. Otherwise a great first brew from a new brewery in Calgary.
