8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - on nitro.

This beer appears a clear, dark orange-brick brown colour, with one finger of puffy, and thoroughly creamy tan head, which leaves some decent thickly webbed lace around the glass as things very slowly sink away.

It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, a further rye graininess, oily bar-top nuts, a hint of free-range ashiness, and some plain earthy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready cereal malt, medium cocoa powder, mild cafe-au-lait, faded rye notes, some earthy nuttiness, faint wispy smoke, and more well-understated leafy, herbal, and dead floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly weak in its bored-seeming frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really getting all up in my palate at this particular juncture. It finishes off-dry, the mixed malt showing the most lingering elan.

Overall - this comes across as a pleasantly rendered version of whatever it is that they set out to make here. The nitro goes the long mile in providing a velvety mouthfeel, which is always a bonus. Worth checking out if you get the chance!
