WEIRDOMAKER is a Double New England IPA brewed in celebration of our 500th batch here at Widowmaker. We brewed this with a big base of Golden Promise, as well as a ton of both malted and flaked oats, we then hopped it with a blend of Citra, Rakau and Galaxy on the hot side. From there, Weirdomaker was fermented with our house yeast, then double dry hopped with a huge dose of both fresh Riwaka and Nelson, and conditioned on a blend of fresh Sauvignon Blanc and Gerwurztraminer grape must. Pouring hazy and thick with a soft fluffy head, we’re getting huge notes of tropical fruit, freshly squeezed orange juice, layered over notes white grapes with a sticky resinous finish that lingers until your next sip. We couldn’t be happier with the result of all we’ve learned as a team in 500 batches worth of time.

I prefer to drink this from the can since it isn't an attractive beer...muddy in color and barely translucent it's hazy AF. There is just too much going on here, taste-wise, with too many flavors in conflict. The front end flavor is without chromatic differentiation, owing to the muddy color of the beer itself. No discernable fruit or melons showing through, just an unbalanced and sprite-like entre' leading to a tar-like, lingering finish. With all the good stuff listed on the can, one has to wonder where the flavor and craftsmanship comes through. It doesn't. Seems to be the oats and wine shots are in serious conflict, with no harmonious co-dependency leading to a consummation of tastes. In other words, this beer is a serious FAIL. Your basic shelfie IPA or DIPA from VT or a staple IPA like any Massachusetts' local like Nightshift or CT's Two Roads blow this away. Let someone else buy this one-off mess of an experiment.
