Collaboration with Obercreek Brewing Company.

New England DIPA brewed with a ton of oats and wheat, this beer was hopped on the hotside with some Citra Incognito, Mosaic and Idaho 7 pellets. We dry hopped this with Citra, Strata, Nelson and Galaxy. This one pours hazy with a thick fluffy head. Soft on the pallet, this one has saturated notes of peach and passionfruit, with a clean bitterness on the back end.

Obercreek is an amazing brewery in Wappingers Falls, which can be found in the Hudson Valley region of New York. They are putting out some of the best beers we have tried since opening Widowmaker and it has been a great getting to know these talented brewers over the last year or so. We had the pleasure of spending a couple of days with them a few weeks back when we brewed this beer and we truly believe this beer represents the best of what both breweries are capable of!

Maybe I’ve just grown tired of NE IPAs. I’d suggest that this one is best when chilled to ~40 F. Smooth mouthfeel and pleasant stone fruit richness up front that quickly dries. Ends with a lingering, resiny, hop oil finish that effectively hides the high abv, but grows a little off balance as the beer warms. It’s a very good example of the NE DIPA style. In general, I find that most all NE IPAs look like crap, but this one had an impressive head with a creamy thickness that I didn’t expect. There’s a massive blend of various hop aromas that warn you that a hop bomb is on its way. Overall, I thought this was a very good beer, just not one I would reach for over a traditional SW CA /West Coast DIPA.
