A 330ml can with a BB of Feb 2018. Purchased recently at the brewery. The label describes it as an IPA brewed with added pineapple and grapefruit. Hopped with Admiral, Cascade, Centennial, Summit and Nelson Sauvin.
A: Poured into an IPA glass. A rich orange-amber hue with good clarity and plentiful carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Nice lacing.
S: Aroma of caramel malt with hints of pineapple, mild citrus, a vague fruitiness, ale yeast and stewed hops. A significant whiff of diacetyl lurks in the background and overshadows the character. Disappointing.
T: Tastes of caramel malt with notes of pineapple, mild grapefruit, fruity hints, ale yeast, stewed hops and faint earthiness. Buttery diacetyl has a discernible presence. Quite dry, with a restrained bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and decent body. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of fruitiness, bitter stewed hops, caramel malt, ale yeast and diacetyl.
O: OK but underdelivers on a great idea. Looks good, however the aroma and flavour have an excessive diacetyl presence that spoils the character. The hops and fruit notes are underpowered. Body is alright. I believe that this brew needed a bit longer to mature prior to packaging. All in all, a lacklustre drinking experience.
