Beautiful pour (see what I did there?) that's jet black with a towering dark brown foamy head that slowly recedes leaving the occasional wisp on the glass, but not as sticky as the head would have suggested.
Nose is muted but pleasant. Roasty with faint warming chocolate that's like chocolate sauce chocolate, not bakers chocolate. Maybe some faint woody notes as well. Pleasant, but understated.
Flavour is more bitter up front, with a dry ashy bitterness of dark roast coffee. There's an almost chicory-esque to it that I think is coming from the same place as the woody note I got off the nose. The round chocolate note of the nose is all but absent on the flavour. Bitter coffee, woody/nutty, ashy. That's the big three I get.
Very dry. Finish is bitter and lingers with coffee bitterness.
Tasty if you're looking for the dryer more bitter side of the stout spectrum, but nothing mind blowing. Happy to support a good cause, though!

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a quarter finger brown head with good retention and and lacing. Aroma of dark toasted and dry biscuit malt, cocoa and coffee. Flavor is dark toasted malt with light to moderate char, dark chocolate, coffee with a roasty finish. Medium bodied with light creaminess. This version has the series deep malt, chocolate and coffee notes, with coffee being the dominant one here, especially in the finish. Roast forward and a bit dry, almost like a bigger version of a foreign/export stout. Body is a little thin for its size. The coffee notes are remarkably authentic and clear, in a blind tasting, I'd guess this was a coffee stout. Another enjoyable version of a great recipe and for a good cause.
