bottle into glass
Frothy, medium light brown head, with some sustain. Just about black in regards to look and pours somewhat thickly. Slightly toasted wood aroma that has a note of Kalamata olive to it. Some lingering foam lacing as liquid level recedes. Medium heavy bodied. Very heavily roasted and sharp initial taste. Quite subtle toffee, dark chocolate and nearly no cinnamon, for the secondary level of flavors.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin dark khaki head that dissipates to a thick film, with moderate lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cinnamon, bakers and dark chocolate, slight vanilla. Flavor is dark toasted malt, cinnamon, grassy hops, bakers chocolate; thins out with a bit of astringency in the finish, leaving an unexpected cinnamon and hop bitterness. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A bit thin for the style, but lots of good bitter chocolate notes with distinct cinnamon, which somewhat overwhelms the malt body in the end. Fortunately, the chocolate redeems this overall. Flavorful, but unbalanced.
