Earth Rider Valhalla Ale is a burly Scotch ale with roasty notes of caramel, prune, and raisin. Malt sweetness is high yet this beer finishes remarkably dry for the style.

From a 12oz can. Best by 03/28/2026
This beer has a dark amber color to it. There's a thick 3 finger tan colored head. I think the head retention is quite good, and the lacing on the glass looks great.
The aroma is pretty faint. I do get some caramel notes to it, but not much else.
The flavor has a nice caramel flavor to it. There's toffee notes also. I get a earthy and slightly spicy hint in this beer.
Great body to this beer. Very smooth and nice fullness to it.
The aroma is a let down, but everything else works great with this beer. Delicious.

This is the best Scotch ale I have had to date. Smoky , syrupy, rich, and an ABV that seems up on you if you aren't paying attention.

12oz can. Date stamp on bottom reads '02/13/24 732 BEST BEFORE'.
Ruby brown colored body. Light beige head, which becomes an island and thin thin ring. Leaves behind a few scattered spots of lacing.
Aroma of sweet malt and raisin.
Taste is more expressive than the nose, with flavors of roasted malts, brown sugar, raisin, and prune. The sweetness and the dark fruits linger in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel, with some syrup. Quite sweet but not too sweet. Supportive carbonation.
The higher ABV% is hidden, but adds to the dark fruit pudding vibe. Caramel dark fruit goodness.

12oz can. Poured out an opaque, dark dark brown color with a small, khaki-colored head of foam. It left some sudsy lace on the glass. It smelled earthy with smoked malt and peat. Sweet toffee and caramel with a smoky kick and earthy finish.

IBU: 29, SRM: 23
Nice looking beer, Deep dark copper semi transparent body, with a impressive head. Tall fine, long lasting leaving plenty of lacing. The body appears brown in low light. But is thick enough to block out some light when I hold it up my beer light.
Taste: caramel, slightly roasted caramel, dark fruit. sweet. somewhat simple but tastes good
Feel: malty and smooth, ABV is well buried in the malt, easy drinking for a malty/syrupy beer.

Pours between a pale red and a cola-brown, topped with a medium tan head of good duration. Excellent lacking.
On the nose there’s plum and dark skinned fruits, fairly “clean”, as well.
On the first sip it is smzoooth... with a very light boozy character toward the tail end of the drink.
It’s a “malt bomb”, so it is sweet to an extent, but nicely bitter and quite balanced throughout the drink.
Super-drinkable, and altogether a better than average interpretation of the style, and easily packed-in and out for trail hikes.

Do not see a lot of Scotch Ales available in 12 oz 6-packs. At 8.6% ABV, packs a lot of punch for the price. Appearance wise it is a very dark ale but not much life is seen after the pour. Almost appears still. But the aroma and flavor are right on point. Very traditional malt and hops. Not smokey like a lot of brewers like to take this style. Despite its appearance, it is carbonated.
