Allouez Amber Ale is dryer and roasty-er than most amber ales. Dark fruit, roasted coffee, and toasty flavors come out as it warms. Low hop presence balances the sweetness with a clean and spicy bitterness. Finishes dry.

This one is 5.8 ABV. Poured into a shaker glass, a big, foamy head lasted for a good minute or two. Even after that settled, a small head remained for minutes after. A nice rust color, nose is sweet grains (some fruit in there also). Taste is sweet malt up front, quickly yielding to hop bitterness that gently tamps down.

12 oz can best before 8/30/25 into a Becker glass.
L: SRM 29 pours a slightly murky dark rusty brown with some mahogany clarity at the base, low carbo, a thin light khaki head that has good retention receding slowly to edge foam, light scattered lacing.
S: Toasted malts, a grain structure, a hint of cocoa.
T: Light cocoa, toasted malts and grains, a touch of sweetness, raisins, brown bread, very light tanginess in the finish, not much aftertaste, fairly clean. All tastes are mellow.
F: Smooth medium to med-light bodied mouthfeel with a med-fast lightly dry finish.
O: A tasty easy drinking beer. Simple tastes that are balanced. Hits the target for the style and should be a year-round Amber. I believe it will pair well with whitefish ocean or freshwater. It is very good.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark and deep amber color with a strong light tan head that lingers. SRM of 19-20. (4.00)
Aroma: Strong aromas of rich bread, amber malts and caramel upfront. Some slightly toasty and sweet flavors emerge underneath. (4.00)
Flavor: Strong flavors of rich rich, amber malts. Some sweet caramel and slightly toasted notes follow. As it evolves, then a slightly astringent coffee and earthy, woodsy roastedness off the backend. Mildly sweet. (4.25)
Feel: Medium-bodied, lower carbonation. Mildly sweet. (3.50)
Overall: Anytime I see a dark ale from anywhere far up north, I usually know it's going to be good. It's cold up there, so they probably know how to brew some good and warming, hearty ales. First try at this one from Earth Rider. Definitely rich bread, amber malts, sweet caramel upfront as usual. As it warms though has an earthy dark fruit, woodsy, and slightly roasted flavor. They describe coffee. I don't get much of that. More woodsy. Definitely complexity as it warms. This is enjoyable.
