Not sure if this is the right style designation -- it is clearly different than their Hefe, but not nearly as dark as most dunkels -- but anyway. Pours a nice dark amber with a little off white head that subsides after a bit, leaving some lacing. Very earthy, with plenty of great barley notes and a hint of wheaty twang, plenty of cloves though even more of that comes through in the taste. All in all, I'm going with rustic and earthy and very pleasant -- very nice in the late fall/early winter in MN. Not all that much in the way of banana and though there are some subtle spicy/grassy noble hop notes, they're not too developed. Carbonation is middling, and the mouthful is substantial without being heavy. Doesn't really come to a point at the end, the finish is a bit undefined.
