A tawny German strong Alt beer spirited with the flavors of the season, additions of ginger, nutmeg, dried orange peels, vanilla, and clover honey combine to elicit the quintessential aromas of the holidays. Warm and inviting, this beer is cozy.

I loved their alt at the brewery and thought I picked up a crowler of that but grabbed this instead....had to double check the can after my first taste....this is more of a festive, holiday offering with distinctive notes of ginger and nutmeg....it's quite good for what it's supposed to be...nice base of I'm guessing the same alt I was drinking yesterday...
Good beer for around the holidays....well made...it's not one I would buy again but I'm ranking it for the quality it shows..

L: Bright brown with a very light haze under a lacy 3" light tan cap with good retention.
S: Well developed range of lightly roasted malt aromas with spice from both the malt and the hops and a very mild fermentation character.
T: Big rich layered dark malt flavors but no burnt or harsh roast flavors and no caramel. There is a very mild fermentation character in the background. The malt is lightly sweet balanced by an assertive hop accent on the finish. Has a lingering spicy dark sugar aftertaste.
F: The beer is very creamy with medium body and carbonation
O: The beer is sessionable, repeatable and very easy to drink.

a neat dark red brew, fashioned as a cold weather beer for the house. this place is awesome, and i thought the wintery offering would be nice in front of one of their wood stoves that heat the place. this feels like winter to me, both in beer and in setting here at waldmann. if you havent been to check it out yet, do yourself a favor and get in on a chilly night. try this beer while you are at it, an alt type, the yeast tastes german and bready, but this really is about the malt for me. its european for sure, hearty and toasted, earthen and rich without being heavy, some sweetness to it but light and mild, not caramelized in the boil to me it doesnt seem, nutty and fresh. this has a baked vibe about it, and the sweetness is nice in that context, its not too much at all, and the body stays only medium. there are some old school hops in here too, a floral note and a dried tea-like property thats pretty cool, balancing but never bitter. carbonation is relaxed but appropriate for the beer, and in the end its a wintery brew that i can session, uncommon in the seasonals this time of year. i loved this place, as much for the atmosphere as for the beer, but this is well worth trying, a little something different for the holidays! traditional but also unique.
