A farmer's dark lager from the region of Franconia in northern Bavaria. Chestnut brown with an off-white head, this beer finishes with notes of caramel and toffee, while its dry roastiness makes it a surprising thirst quencher.

Not their usual dunkel (which is, of course, done in the Munich style), I wasn’t sure how to categorize this, but whatever. In the biergarten, with a pulled pork sandwich and their amazing pickled vegetables. The brewery description says: “this landbier…finishes with notes of nuts, caramel, and toffee.” Looks great in the willibecher: dark chestnut with a little ruby glow at the edges. Creamy white head, good retention but not a ton of lacing. Nose is solid rich and yeasty bread, but not super rich, maybe a little sweet and chewy caramel or toffee. Taste Carrie’s the nose forward, but the sweet stuff is really at the edges; the heart of the beer, and it really sits on your tongue with very round flavor notes, is a nutty and bready malt, and there’s also a kind of woody note, too ( but maybe that’s just the nuttiness). Carb is low, body is moderate, and I expected it to be a little chewy, but it really isn’t. Fantastic with the food.
