While Bock Bier is a barley-only Bavarian lager, Weizenbock is a wheat-and-barley strong Bavarian ale, brewed with complex technical precision, this Weizenbock is decoction mashed, fermented warm, then matured cool. The best combination of wheat and yeast flavors, balanced with rich maltiness, strength, and body of a bock.

Pours a dusky amber in color, topped with a beautifully voluminous pale tan head.
The Clove and banana notes are apparent in the nose, and rather subtle. Slightly metallic character and hints of acidity as well.
The somewhat off-putting notes on the nose follow through on the first sip, and don’t entirely diminish once the drink is firmly upon the palate.
Body is surprisingly light and somewhat thin, and the tepid carbonation* doesn’t help.
Flavors are a bit muted, and as this only weigh in at 6.5%, there isn’t much “oomph” to carry this, stylistically or otherwise.
Not a bad beer by any means, but I have had better in the style to be sure. I should re-sample it when it is served fresh, on tap.

*The packaged-on date on the crowler is 1/26/24. It’s almost seven months later, so this one may simply be past its prime.

This is a nicely crafted weizenbock...it includes a rich melanoidin, bready maltiness, along with some spicy clove like phenols...a touch of cocoa...aroma brings a bit of dark fruits as well and maybe a light impression of that on the taste too,..
Overall this is legit...I wouldn't put it up there with Aveninus or anything like that but I don't find too many places that can craft this style this well in Minnesota..
