Tasted this beer by half-pint at the Greenwich Union pub, the Meantime Brewery's brewery tap. Again, I suspect this is the same beer as bottled for the Sainsbury's ("Bavarian Style Wheat Beer"), but I didn't ask. But the bar staff did tell me this is a German Hefe-weizen, rather than American Pale Wheat Ale as categorised here...

A: cloudy orangey, fresh mango-juice like colour, with a moderate carbonation. Looking like real hefe-weizen~~
S: lightly spicy note of clove, mildly "skunky" smell of banana-skin and wheatish aroma, some sour-sweet fruitiness of tropical fruits mixed of lime, passion fruit and banana...overall quite mildly fruity for a hefe-weizen, and not as assertive and spicy.
T&M: very soft banana flavour decorated with a hint of spice, against a rich, bready and grainy body; also at present is an explicit taste of bubble-gum(!), but not OTT. The mouthfeel is quite soft against a medium-rich fruitiness, but after chewing it in the mouth, it turns thiner bit by bit, and becomes watery in the aftertaste, lacking the support of consistently pronounced flavour and a richer body.
D: not too bad experiment, at least it's tasted on tap there and ensures the freshness of the beer.

Sainsbury's "Taste the Difference" Bavarian Style Wheat Beer...

Appearance: pale gold/straw, quite cloudy, huge cream-colored pillow of froth, good head retention, some lace

Aroma: subdued banana esters and clove phenols (enough to let you know it's a Bavarian hefe), nice grainy fresh bread scent, just a touch of hops

Flavor: somewhat dry malt backbone, quite a bit of cloviness, trace of banana, chewy graininess, yeast, finishes semi-dry with a bready aftertaste and a faint vegetal hop flavor

Mouthfeel: medium-light body, soft texture, lower carbonation than the usual Bav. Hefe

Other comments: The beers Meantime makes for Sainsbury's are good, solid beers. Nothing really extraordinary or envelope-pushing, but much better than you'd expect of something that is commissioned by a supermarket chain.

660ml bottle

Pours with a lemon, yellow body, murky with small inch head, soon dissapating

Smell, malty, light fruity aroma, very little else

Taste, light fruit flavout, no extreme flavour or aroma

Very bland wheat beer, un offensive but little coming off it

Pours a cloudy peachy orange colour, with an accompanying white head. Aroma is very wheaty, and also very fruity, with distinctive apricot notes, as well as other more ambiguous fruity esters.
Taste is yeasty, bready, and also slightly floral, as well as the delightful taste of papaya and apricots.

Clean mouthfeel, very clean finish. Excellent drinkability and holds good session status.
