Possibly one of the best German style dunkels I have tasted that is not brewed in Germany!
Not much head appeared on my pour, but the taste in the same league as some of the Bavarian gems it was modelled on. Good level of carbonation and a nice mouthfeel - tasted very fresh. Nice little sweet malty finish, I will get this again for sure.
I am planning a visit to the Greenwich Union to sample some Meantime beers on draught.

It seems like a new beer brewed for the Sainsbury's "Taste the Difference" range. BB 27/06/2007, served chilled in a slim goblet.
A: brownish hue, or very dark copper with ruby hints when seen against light; a thin beige foamy head on top of a moderately carbonated body; nice-looking.
S: sweet malty all the way through... burned sugar, crushed dried date or black date jam, brown sugar, a touch of roast nuts, and a touch of burned apple peels... overall very simplistic--malty, that is.
T: slightly metallic and dark malty (wholemeal-bready and mildly chocolatey) upfront with a firm tone of roast-nuts, but not as sweet as the nose (thankfully) suggests... the chewy, almost licorice-like bitterness from roasted malts and a very pleasant dryish edge of dried hops gradually develop at the back of the palate, smoothly covering the whole palate with a slightly rustic texture~~ and yet throughout there's a very subtle and crisp doughy sourness of good lager threading through all the other elements; dryish and clean in the finish.
M&D: the texture/mouthfeel is the strongest point of this beer, with a good body without excessive carbonation, but refreshing and clean enough to quaff. A good product overall, even though the aroma disappoints a little bit.

Taste, quite a thin mouthfeel, some dark cocoa bittneress on the tongue, touch of espresso, some alcohol on the finish along with some roasted malt
A very drinkable lager but lacks body and character, nothing to get too excited about

Poured a deep dark burgundy red... Creamy tan head poured quite thick then faded fairly quickly to very thin layer... A fair amount of carbonation drifts to the surface... no real lacing...
Aroma - Roasted biscuity malts, toffee / brown sugar sweetness, dark fruits (plums, blackcurrents, some figs), faint smokiness, nutty, peppery hops, some bready / malt loaf notes...
Taste Nice toasted bready notes, biscuity maltiness, quite tart dark fruits (definite plums and blackcurrents, some apples and strawberries), definite nutty sweetness, molasses / treacle notes, spicy / peppery hops just coming through the maltiness...
Feel - Quite smooth then some sharpness comes through... medium bodied... pretty drinkable - could probably have a few of these in one sitting...
Overall - Another good beer from the Sainsburys Taste The Difference range.... well worth a try...
